Heaven Is A Place Where Nothing Ever Happens
At KN: Raum für Kunst in Kontext, Berlin-based artist Elizabeth McTernan presented work developed during her recent residencies at Ars Bioarctica in northern Finland and Villa Eläintarha in Helsinki. Working at the intersection of geological research, philosophy, and the absurdity of human error, McTernan has created work in places as diverse as the Himalayas, the Gobi Desert, and the Bavarian foothills. She is a flâneur of the landscape, pairing close observations of the natural world with a humorous nod to our human-centric understanding of our universe. In previous works, she has probed the nature of sea level on Earth and Mars, written letters to a building marked for demolition, wrestled with the coastline paradox, and hosted a six hour walk to meet a sound. This was McTernan’s second solo exhibition in Berlin.
